Convicted-A 365 Day Devotional
So, I started to write a history, about how we have tried to inflict hatred on one another in the name of a loving God, as some would have us believe.
This led me through the paths of slavery, The Trail of Tears, The Tulsa Massacre, The Ku Klux Klan and the era of Jim Crow. Never mind the continuing assault of outlying “Christian” sects that regularly use Bibles to assault other people with selective Scriptures about how God “hates” them for words and deeds that they find objectionable.
After being disgusted with this line of writing and inquiry, I just had to move along to something that I felt better writing about. Something that honored my Creator, His Son, and The Holy Spirit. If it weren’t for these, I couldn’t do anything to seek His glory or love anyone the way Jesus did:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:34 (ESV)
The world has become a tricky place and is out of control. The Devil loves it, and will take advantage as much as possible.
Politics, History, Economics, and Philosophy are all great things to know but the really important thing to have a grasp of is a relationship. There is only one relationship that matters and it doesn’t come from Bible-thumping, religious preaching, or any kind of fancy theology.
That relationship is the one that comes from knowing Who the capstone verse is about and what He stood for in John 13:34—Jesus Christ.
Prayer - Jesus, I love you and need you above everything in my heart and mind and soul. Fill me to overflowing with the love you poured out for me on that terrible cross. I need you now, more than ever. I’m in a terrible place. No one but you can fill that void. All around me are filled with anger, greed, and oppression. Until we all see you face to face, keep me faithful and seeking your way first. Arm me with the weapons of Your warfare, so that I will be prepared for what lies ahead. Keep me peaceful, wise, and comforted because of our relationship. In Jesus Name. Amen.
