Cannibalizing America
"Terror is only justice: prompt, severe, inflexible; it is, therefore, an emanation of virtue." ~ Maximilien Robespierre
Some of you may have heard the name of the man quoted above. Maximilien Robespierre was the head of the French government, after the overthrow of the monarchy, aristocracy (aka- the bourgeoisie), and all things religious starting with the storming of the Bastille—a prison—on July 14, 1789. He then led the provisional government in what became known as the Reign of Terror which ran from September 1793 to July 1794. He died that year.
During the Reign of Terror over which he presided, over 20,000 people died by decapitation at the guillotine in Paris, mainly by his decree. As the leader of the so-called Committee of Public Safety, he decided who was a danger to society (that is, nearly everyone brought before his tribunal) and who was not. It was a political show that ended with his own demise by the same means with which he terrorized French society.
Why should we care, you might be asking? In earlier essays I have written about Funeral Rites and how I believe our beloved country is headed down a primrose path to destruction at the hands of people whose values are so foreign to most of us that power, wealth, selfish interest, coupled with an absence of morality—whether based on religious values, or not—mean nothing. In my opinion, and based on my observation first hand, this is true of our leaders at every level of government, in business, in society, and more and more in religion.
Essential to every civilized society throughout history are systems of justice, and the judicious use of, and trust in, established norms for how things should work. This includes philosophies and religions that allow for the discussion of ideas and permit continuing discussion, so that the powerful among us can’t intimidate, or terrorize the weaker among us into silence or submission, however that power is measured, in whatever field of endeavor is being pursued.
All great civilizations were built this way, and when they started to crumble it was usually because the powerful among the people in these civilizations were able to lord it over the weaker and get away with it for a sustained period of time in a number of major areas. If you get nothing else out of this brief piece, mark this paragraph.
Why is America on such a rapid decline, as I suppose? Is the decline irretrievable? Where does the real power in America lie in the 21st century?
These questions must be asked and answered before it is too late to do something about the decline, I think. Clearly our laws and those who are charged with making them have abrogated some of that responsibility to others. Those with the responsibility to enforce laws—like police agencies, and prosecutors, and judges—are sometimes not neutral arbiters of justice as they should be. Hidden, though not secret forces are afoot that are able to coopt the legitimate power of elected, and appointed officers in such a way that chaos easily overruns society.
In economics, a new patrician class of oligarchs that controls upwards of 80% of the nation’s wealth in the financial markets has emerged. They make up the top .01% of the U.S. population, while the middle class continues to shrink and the gap between the “haves and have nots” continues to increase. Thus, the remaining 20% of the market value that remains won’t be in the hands of the middle class for long. The poor tend not to invest or save, as they struggle to eat, feed their families, and pay ever increasing rent.
Recently, the CEO of J.P. Morgan Bank, Jamie Dimon, said that private property should be seized so that wind farms and solar farms could be built on the land that was taken. I had to laugh some in my outrage at the thought of this, as it was so out of touch with what the average American lives through day to day. Secure men like Mr. Dimon don’t make comments like this to the public, though.
Another patrician, a man legendary for thinking his view of the world is better than anyone’s (and is willing to put billions of his own money behind his views) is George Soros. He calls himself a philanthropist these days, but in times past he made his fortune messing with the economies of entire nations like Great Britain. He has sons who are following in his footsteps, like a true patrician from the ancient Roman days, too.
This matters because in the last several years his Open Society Foundation, with its smaller front operations, have succeeded in coopting the judicial system effecting the lives of over 45 million Americans in nearly all of the largest cities in America, including those on the west coast of the United States, and across the southwest border with Mexico. He has done this by putting millions of dollars into the most progressive, liberal system of prosecutors in history. He is 93 years old and when he dies, one or both of his sons will follow in his footsteps.
The OSF has been around for decades and is a product of Soros’s vision for an America, which is dominated by people like him, or who think like him. Not elected mind you. Interestingly, if any of you have ever seen an episode of Shark Tank on CNBC the prospective candidates for Soros’s money go through a similar process. Soros, and other billionaire patricians gather together and evaluate the purity of the leftism of each candidate, and how likely they are to stick to Soros’s and the other’s plan for the jurisdiction. If you thought your party affiliation and vote mattered, you can dispense with that immediately. Party hasn’t mattered in politics in ages.
Now, these progressive prosecutors have over 70 jurisdictions and they have managed to create a crisis in policing with the “Defund the Police” movement, and their failure to prosecute many violent crimes, gang violence, rioting, and in some cases murders. Bond Reform has permitted many “catch and release” felons to get back on the street immediately, before arraignment. Furthermore, illegal immigration allows for entry of drug and arms traffic which goes unabated. On top of that, police are likelier than ever to be prosecuted themselves for the slightest complaint.
Many of the largest police jurisdictions in the country can’t replace those who are leaving or retiring, and this creates many unsafe streets, and a further loss of civilizational structure. Coupled with the selective prosecution of cases connected to high profile people, like those connected to former President Donald Trump, or entertainer John Legend’s car theft in Los Angeles as just two examples, while others go unprosecuted.
The parallels to this in history are startling, and that is why I pointed out what happened in the French Revolution. Obviously, there are others but what happened then should be an object lesson to us of what is to come.
When systems of justice at the local level collapse, so eventually will the entire structure. Politics and politicians get their money from the same patricians, for the most part, and are beholden to them. Between election day and the day they are sworn into office the patricians and special interests have coopted your vote. As the saying goes, “those with the power to give you everything you want, have the power to take it all away”.
Economics, political power, and social change mixed with religious fervor have merged into a toxic cocktail that will result in our demise. We may still call ourselves the United States of America but what remains of the original structure won’t have any resemblance to what was birthed here nearly 250 years ago.
A current movement which is picking up speed is the elimination of the Electoral College. Many Republicans and Democrats, in an attempt to make for a more democratic presidential election, favor amending the Constitution to do this but it would be fraught with risks because there is so much money behind elections at every level now.
Imagine an election where the greatest influence is that which is bought by the patricians with the most money to bring to the table, while the rest of us are duped into believing we actually did something democratic.
This is the ultimate utopian fantasy, and our worst nightmare. When the George Floyd riots visited Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2020, Antifa rioters destroyed buildings and rolled mock-ups of guillotines through the streets of that city.
How much more social tampering needs to happen for this to become a far more widespread reality? It was the patricians who were shielded from the consequences of their decisions, made for the good of everyone else. Eventually, as with Robespierre, the blade caught up to them.
Napoleon’s dictatorship followed. What will our dictatorship look like?
Let's talk about it on Facebook
